About Our Firm
Mark D. Cummings and David E. Sher formed Sher & Cummings in 1983 on a handshake after years of practice in the areas of civil and criminal litigation. Since then, Sher & Cummings represented individuals in multi-million dollar lawsuits involving medical malpractice, attorney fees disputes, as well as representing individuals facing various traffic and criminal charges.
The Northern Virginia community continued to burgeon into an active metropolitan area, and Sher & Cummings continued to expand its practices, and moved its offices to the current location at 3800 N. Fairfax Dr., Ste. 7 , Arlington , VA 22203.
In 2003, Sher & Cummings was joined by another well-respected and successful attorney specializing in medical malpractice and personal injury cases, John P. Ellis. The name of the firm changed into Sher, Cummings & Ellis, and the firm continued to successfully maintain and expand its practice of law with the added expertise of Mr. Ellis.
Like any successful organization, it is the attorneys of Sher, Cummings and Ellis who make this firm exceptional.

Mr. Cummings is past President of the Arlington County Bar Association, and is an Adjunct Professor at George Mason University School of Law, in addition serving on the Judicial Selection Committee of the 17th Judicial District, the Virginia State Bar Council, and the Board of Governors for the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.
